If we identified the two most revolutionary vehicles of the fifties, the list would undoubtedly comprise the T-Bird and the VW Beetle. After it crashed, its wings were tacked onto a blinged-out Torino, and so died a piece of the American dream. Perhaps, like Icarus, it tried to fly too high, or maybe the dream changed, because it soon fell back to Earth. For a dozen or so years the Thunderbird soared, revolutionizing the industry by creating an entirely new genre: The attainable personal-luxury car. If Ol’ Henry could fulfill his once-unattainable dream of putting every American on wheels, then surely Hank II and his Whiz Kids could fit them with wings. Suddenly, luxury and exclusivity were no longer in the realm of a privileged few, but within the grasp of every hard-working dreamer after all, the T-Bird was a Ford. It literally embodied the dream that everyday folks could soar above the humdrum of a dull workaday existence and dowdy sedans. As a kid, I could never tell them apart anyway. A button releases the trunk lid, and a switch inside the trunk raises and lowers the power top. 1958 was the only year that the top operation is "Semi-automatic". Currently the white wall radial tires feature Mustang hubcaps, but the car does come with the original hub caps as well. If you're in the market for a 1958-1960 Ford Thunderbird, you're in luck because all this T-Bird needs is a new name on the title. Other recent work includes a new 4-barrel carburetor, oil change, tune-up, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, power steering flush, and fuel lines flushed. The 352 CID V8 engine is paired with the 3-Speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. A new Black convertible top has just been installed along with plaid trunk kit! This body style only lasted 1958, 1959, and 1960 and then came the bullet bird. This one just had a new paint job in Raven Black and is matched nicely to the Black and White vinyl interior. These are lovingly called Square Birds as the body lines were more masculine and squared off than the prior model. ![]() You won't find too many convertibles for sale, and this one is priced to move! The production of convertibles started late, so only 2,134 were built in 1958 making this as rare as hen's teeth. They went from a 2-seat roadster meant to compete with Chevrolet's Corvette, to a full-sized big V8 powered luxury vehicle that could comfortably seat 4.
